NuServe is a family business and we regard all our colleagues as valued members of the NuServe family.  We know from experience that people who are treated and paid fairly are more committed, more loyal and more professional. That’s how we ensure the quality service for which we are known and we want to work with clients who share the same values.

A large proportion of our people have been with us for over five years; many have developed new roles and responsibilities within the company; and some, we are proud to say, have left us to take up new opportunities as a result of our investment in their progress. 
 

MEET THE TEAM

OUR COMMITMENT TO FAIRNESS

Our B Corp certification holds us accountable for the welfare of our people and yours and we approach our social responsibility via three commitments:

decent work

We safeguard the welfare of our frontline workers by giving them the time and tools they need to work safely and efficiently.
We instigate a zero harm culture by:

  • Investing in training to provide a workplace free of discrimination, bullying and harassment
  • Raising awareness and standing against modern slavery and human trafficking
  • Celebrating cultural diversity and ensuring equal opportunities for all

We monitor their wellbeing through annual baseline surveys and regular feedback meetings with managers and supervisors, who are trained to support their mental health.

FAIR PAY

We believe that every working adult should be able to provide for their family and are committed to ensuring the real Living Wage for all our frontline workers. We have already begun the transition and have set a target of 100% by May 2024, which we will achieve by:

  • Specifying the real Living Wage in all new contracts
  • Migrating existing clients to the real Living Wage at a rate of 15% per year
     

PROSPERITY

As an ambitious company that doesn’t stand still, we want all our employees to have the opportunity to progress, even if that means leaving us.

We don’t hold anyone back. In fact, our Poach our People initiative actively encourages clients to take our people on. Within NuServe we set out clear promotion pathways and invest in personal development courses.

Career Development

To match the career development ambitions of our colleagues, we have in place a comprehensive suite of City & Guilds endorsed online training courses. These are delivered via UhUb, a mobile first e-learning system, which has a live reporting function that enables us to include training dates and skill gaps in our monthly reports. 

Uhub also has the ability for quizzes to be taken in five different languages, which opens the content up to employees for whom English is not their first language. We can also use the platform to quickly distribute specific training lessons when a matter becomes urgent. For example, in March 2020, we were able to publish and distribute a video to all our employees to provide Covid awareness training.

Colleagues are incentivised to complete their training goals with a prize draw scheme, whereby the prizes become bigger and better the further they progress. And it’s working. 

As of Feb 2021, despite the pandemic, we became uHub Gold Engaged, meaning over 90% of our workforce have completed all core modules within the  ‘curriculum’.

 

Pedro's story

We feel that everyone who joins NuServe should be able to progress their career in an area that interests them. Pedro Sanchez joined our business as a Cleaning Operative, progressed to Site Supervisor, and later to Area Supervisor. Pedro then came to see us to explain that he was interested in learning about HR, so we created a position for him within our HR team, helping us to recruit, induct and support our frontline teams.

Pedro proved to be an invaluable member of NuServe's HR team during the pandemic. Thus, it was with mixed emotions that we said good-bye to Pedro in August 2021when he found another position with his newly acquired skill set.

To cap off this success story, Pedro and his wife have just bought and moved into their first house and have welcomed their first child.
 

Meet the team

Simon Duke - managing director

Simon doesn’t like standing still. He has lived on three continents so far and has a compulsion for challenging the status quo. He loves anything that promises innovation, believes bars are for raising and promises for keeping. When he’s not looking for new ways to improve things, he swims competitively (aiming to finish with a GB top 10 masters age group time this season) and makes a mean cup of coffee, having trained as a barista.

Tereska Sherman - financial controller

Tereska is one of those people with a head for figures, patterns and puzzles, which makes her ideal as our financial controller. When she’s not balancing the books and figuring out ways to improve the bottom line, she enjoys spending time with her children, walking the dog, going to the gym and gardening. She spent her childhood growing up in a castle, which just so happened to be a country pub.

Bernard Kirkman - head of operations

Bernard loves it when a plan comes together. He takes pride in motivating his teams to meet and exceed clients’ expectations. Having survived close encounters with a rhino, an elephant, a hippo and Michael Jackson, nothing fazes Bernard or dents his sense of humour. In his spare time he enjoys the company of his family, coaches children’s rugby and tests his culinary skills by cooking dishes from around the world.

Malgorzata Gorka - account manager

A highly motivated self-starter, Malgorzata is self-taught in both English and computing and now helps to develop our software. She loves applying technology to finding solutions and simplifying processes to improve the service we provide to customers and when she’s not learning new skills she likes to cook, read, watch TV (but only the interesting stuff) and maintain her health and fitness at the gym.

Nicola Jordan - hr administrator

Nicola is related to the legendary bourbon distiller Jack Daniels and certainly helps to keep spirits high among the NuServe team with her positive manner. She is never short of commitment and drive in giving our staff the support they need to achieve the very best standards for our clients. A mother of twins, Nicola likes to bake, play board games and scuba dive, but not all at the same time.

Warren Vermeulen - account manager

At work Warren is passionate about superlative service and dedication and believes strongly that what you put in, you get back out. During his spare-time he enjoys being outdoors and visiting the park with his daughter. The other love in his life is sport which is probably why he is so competitive in everything he does and always wants to give things his best shot. He classes his claim to fame as finding Real success is finding your life work in the work that you love!

Brandy Dragan - HR Manager

Having a wide European background, Brandy decided to set sail many moons ago and establish herself in England where she can enjoy long rainy walks in woodlands or on Brighton beach with her lovely dog Luna. She has a thirst for travel and Salsa dancing, especially if she can combine the two in a hot climate like Cuba! Closer to home she enjoys baking for friends, loves to develop her knowledge and self-awareness, and gives time to helping others as a life coach.

Pedro Goncalves - Service Manager

Every day brings fresh challenges and Pedro relishes the opportunity to find solutions and get the job done, time after time. It’s that satisfaction, coupled with a strong sense of ambition and an aptitude for fast learning, that make him a popular figure with clients, with whom he communicates on a daily basis.

Georgina Lockwood - Sustainability Officer

Adventurous. That’s Georgina. Having cut her teeth exploring the African bush and horse riding in the Magaliesberg Mountains of South Africa, she then took to the world’s oceans as a trainee sailor on a three-masted barque. Her love of nature and the environment is now focused on corporate sustainability, her treasure is a trash report and her hunger for discovery is fed by running through the streets of London.

Yvonne Duke - hr director

Job satisfaction to Yvonne is getting things right first time. As a former guitar teacher, though, she understands the importance of practice and putting in the work to make the performance perfect, a value she applies to getting the best out of our teams. She enjoys reading books that give her a deeper understanding of people, and when she’s not feeding her knowledge of the human psyche you’ll find her feeding someone else with one of her culinary creations.

Brett Walker - account manager

Brett prides himself on being the type of guy you can count on and enjoys delivering client satisfaction through finding simple and efficient solutions. This attention to detail at work means that in his spare time he likes nothing more than to unwind in the outdoors away from the "hustle and bustle" and will often take part in 5 day hiking trails. His claim to fame is that he once went diving with Whale Sharks.

Rachelle Kearins - account manager

A gifted singer who won a bursary to the Blackheath Conservatoire, Rachelle is our grande dame of high tempo, harmonious management, always making sure her team are singing from the same hymn sheet to provide note perfect customer service. And if that’s not enough musical puns, she gets her kicks from seeing the world and unwinding with family and friends.

Sarah Turnwell - operations administrator

Sarah’s uncle is the famous show jumper Harvey Smith and she grew up on a farm surrounded by ponies. So it’s no surprise that she sees obstacles as nothing more than a challenge to be cleared and pushes herself to jump higher and further to provide the best possible support and service to clients and colleagues. Away from work, Sarah likes to run, socialise, listen to music and spend time with her family.

Dax Goose - commercial director

Singing Italian Opera during his youth, Dax knows just how to keep to the hymn sheet. He lives by the moto "Plan the work and work the plan" and applies this not only to his job but also to his golf game. He once fell 60ft without the assistance of a rope so now believes in being securely in control - with a little help.

Emese Kiss‑Németh - finance assistant

As well as swimming through the Balaton in Hungary without stopping Emese is also a qualified diver so she is definitely not afraid of the unknown. She has a keen sense of adventure and even took the step to go skydiving to push herself out of her comfort zone. In her spare time she enjoys travelling and exploring new places with friends as well as relaxing whilst reading. At work she likes organisation and having things balanced and up to date, whilst paying attention to the finer details.

Louise Williams - Payroll Manager

“Treat people as you would want to be treated yourself,” that’s the rule Louise lives and works by and it’s served her well for over 30 years. That and all the rules you can create in Excel, which she adores almost as much as her beloved grandchildren. Having been an avid swimmer, horse rider and trampolinist as a girl, she now spends her spare time in gentler pursuits, like reading romance books and painting.

Adailton Galini - Area Supervisor

When he’s not giving his all to make sure that our clients and colleagues are happy, Adailton likes to spend time with his family and friends, playing games and getting exercise in the open air. He is a Christian with a strong belief in the importance of trust and he is always looking for new challenges, whether it’s at work, playing video games, swimming or riding his bike.

Amy‑Lynn Ferguson - HR/Payroll Assistant

Amy is passionate about being a team player and working towards a mutual goal with her colleagues, who she also considers to be her friends. During her spare-time she likes to spend time with loved ones with good food and good wine. On long weekends she enjoys bike rides with her partner and young daughter. Amy revels in learning new things and pushing herself out of her comfort zone. When she was 7 she played the organ in the cabaret club on Eastbourne pier, because her Dad made her-this made the audience cry because she was so sweet!

Richard Lockwood - director

Richard likes to stay in touch with nature and is passionate about improving the environment. You’ll often find him researching the most eco-friendly ways to keep our customers’ offices clean and he likes to spend his down time either at the stove with a challenging new recipe or out convening with nature in his camper van. He keeps a global view by climbing mountains and ranks the 4,017m Weissmies in the Swiss Alps as his greatest high.

Charlotte Jones - business development executive

Having swum competitively for Sussex, Charlotte has a keen sense of competition. Her warm and friendly disposition helps her to build solid business opportunities and develop close relationships with potential clients. Away from work she likes to spend time with friends and family creating new and fun memories and says, somewhat enigmatically, that her claim to fame is currently in progress… watch this space!

Angie Hall - business development executive

Angie was named after a song by the Rolling Stones and calls herself a bubbly social butterfly. She can often be found at a gig or festival and a recent highlight was that she managed to meet the lead singer of her favourite band. Luckily she also knows how to unwind in her quiet time by going to the gym and her weekly yoga class or by cooking new healthy vegan recipes. In the workplace Angie enjoys interacting with people and building new relationships whether on the phone or in the office.

Chad Healey - special works manager

Chad places great importance on his attention to detail and making sure that the job is done right. He is passionate about NuServe as a company and building tight relationships with staff, clients and colleagues. He has grit and determination and proved this when he came second in a country wide run against his fellow colleagues representing their 250 sites. In his spare time he relaxes by trout fishing and recalls his favourite time sitting in the Drakensburg Mountains around a camp fire and a cold beer.

Wendy Maguire - site manager

Wendy has always been into her fitness, starting as a child when she was the youngest Coventry Schoolgirls Pentathlon champion two years on the run and even now she attends the gym most evenings. Another interesting fact is that she was chosen to represent the UK in the Junior Olympics in 1976 but unfortunately couldn't attend as she broke her arm on the trampoline. At work Wendy is passionate about making the job run effectively and efficiently whilst having fully trained staff who are confident and content within their roles.

Rui Pereira - Special Works Supervisor

Making complexity look easy is Rui’s forte. He prides himself on being a problem solver, with expert knowledge of all aspects of cleaning. Constantly motivated by the feeling of accomplishment, he manages to make his daily routine a constant cycle of excellence.

Carla Borges - Portfolio Manager

Carla joined us with six years experience in data centre cleaning and has proven key to our commitment to listen to our colleagues, especially when their first language is Portuguese. Brazilian born and bred, her bi-lingual skills are invaluable in helping HR with translation, while away from work she makes sure to pass on her Portuguese to her daughter and (presumably) the two “fur babies” who take up the rest of her time.

Cindy Marin - Service Manager

Creativity and attention to detail are Cindy’s drivers. She carries her love of design and innovation into every aspect of life, always looking for new and better solutions and spotting the nuances that open the door to meaningful relationships in and out of work. Relaxation for Cindy is being with friends, enjoying a glass of good wine or listening to the waves lap on a hot summer beach.

Geovanny Isaza - Service Manager

Geo has experienced the buzz of the Big Apple and the allure of London, having lived on both sides of the pond, and he loves being amongst people, learning from others and using his fun and friendly character to build team spirit and make clients and colleagues feel at ease. That passion for teamwork goes for when he’s playing his beloved football too, or creating games with his wife and daughters at home.
